Causes for Yield Shortall

If the power or energy output of the system is not as expected, this yield shortfall could have a number of causes

Pre-Operational

Errors in forecasting, planning, design and quality assurance of modules occur frequently. In most instances, they cannot be fixed afterwards. High quality design and engineering is required.

Operational - internal

Component errors include inverter defects, loose cable connections, defective fuses, mechanical defects in trackers, module defects (mechanical or pv material) and insulation faults (e.g. from animal bites). Real-time monitoring help with detection and to keep maintenance costs low.

Operational - external

External events beyond the control of the operator include natural disasters, theft, vandalism expropriation. Stakeholders may require insurance against those risks.
